01The Kamathipura Maharaja was established in the year 1953, and its very foundation was the result of a sacred vow.
02Although the present mandal is united, in earlier times there were several different groups in the area, and there was a great deal of violence. To bring everyone together, create something new, and promote brotherhood and unity, the local people took a collective vow and established Lord Ganesha.
03In 1997, for the first time, a 20-foot-tall standing Panchmukhi idol was installed. As it was the first large Ganpati idol in Kamathipura, it came to be known as “Kamathipura Cha Maharaja.”
04From the year 2000 onward, the mandal began bringing the seated Maharaja idol, which later became our trademark.
05The Maharaja gradually created a deep sense of faith among the people of Kamathipura, and many devotees experienced miracles in their lives. People began placing coconuts, gold ornaments, silver articles, and other offerings before the Maharaja as an expression of their devotion and gratitude.
06In 2002, the deity came to be popularly known as “Navasala Pavnara Kamathipura Cha Maharaja” — the Kamathipura Maharaja who fulfils devotees’ vows and wishes.
07Until 2012, all the decorations of the mandal were created by the mandal’s own members. The mandal encouraged talented and hardworking local youngsters by giving them opportunities to transform the ideas and concepts of residents into reality.
08In 2012, the mandal completed 60 glorious years.
09During the mandal’s Golden Jubilee year, marking its 50th anniversary, several religious and social programmes were introduced for the ten days of the Ganesh festival. These programmes continue even today.
10Throughout the ten-day festival, various sacred rituals are performed for Kamathipura Cha Maharaja, including daily Abhishek, Gan Homa, Sahasrabhishek, Dhruva Abhishek, and Bhandara. These traditions have continued uninterrupted for the past 24 years.
11In recent years, several new initiatives have also been added to these ten-day celebrations. Every year, one day is dedicated to women’s empowerment, during which workshops are organised especially for women. A blood donation camp is also conducted.
12However, organising all these activities is not easy for the mandal because Kamathipura is viewed very differently by the outside world, while the true identity and history of Kamathipura are completely different.
13We have repeatedly tried to explain this truth to people.
14Kamathipura is the place where the revered Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar established his first printing press. It is the same area that gave Maharashtra its first Speaker. Our ancestors from Kamathipura played an important role in constructing many of Mumbai’s historic buildings.
15The people of Kamathipura also contributed significantly to uniting Mumbai’s original seven islands. Despite this remarkable history, Kamathipura is still defamed and viewed in an extremely negative and incorrect manner.
16This negative perception also affects the public Ganesh mandals of Kamathipura.
17Every Ganesh mandal in Kamathipura is more than 70 years old. Yet, people from Mumbai and across Maharashtra often ignore or hesitate to visit the Ganpati celebrations in Kamathipura.
18As a result, the public mandals of Kamathipura do not receive outside donations or advertising support like many other mandals in Mumbai.
19Most of the mandal’s expenses are covered through local contributions, and every member of the mandal contributes a considerable amount from their own pocket. This is something that deeply concerns and disappoints us.
20For the past several years, we have been trying to tell people that Kamathipura installs some of the most beautiful Ganpati idols, such as Bappa Barfani, Mumbai Cha Shubhankar, Mahaganpati, Kamathipura Cha Raja, and many others.
21This year, Kamathipura Cha Maharaja is entering its 74th year, and the following year will mark our historic 75th anniversary.
22After many years, the grand arrival procession of Kamathipura Cha Maharaja will begin from Ganesh Sankulan.

2015
As the Mandal continued its remarkable journey, its commitment extended far beyond the annual Ganesh festival. Social welfare initiatives, charitable activities, health awareness programs, blood donation drives, educational support, and community outreach became an integral part of its mission. Inspired by Lord Ganesha's teachings, Kamathipuracha Maharaja strengthened its role as a symbol of compassion, unity, and selfless service throughout society.

2017
The year 2017 marked another historic milestone as Kamathipuracha Maharaja proudly completed 65 glorious years of devotion and tradition. From a humble beginning in 1953 to becoming one of Mumbai's most respected Ganesh Mandals, the journey reflected unwavering faith, community spirit, and cultural excellence. This celebration honored every founder, volunteer, artisan, and devotee whose dedication kept the sacred legacy alive across generations.

What began in 1953 as a humble neighborhood celebration had grown into one of Mumbai's most respected Ganesh Mandals, inspiring devotees across generations. Every Ganeshotsav continued to strengthen the bond between Bappa and His devotees while preserving traditions that define the Mandal's rich legacy.
